    Regarding "pregnant" there is a spanish cognate. It is "preñada". It is used in some spanish speaking zones. Also "excited" matches "excitado" which is used more as "aroused".

    This is the way to learn another western world language. You start from what you already know. English via the norman french and even before that received also many words from latin. And scientific/tech words created from greek. And spanish has borrowed many new words from english.

    I speek portuguese and I like to study othes laguages. The answer I found to all these why´s is the title of the song: "That´s just the way it is". I agree with him. I think the best we can do is knowing the (very very) basics of the grammar of the language not to commit some terrible mistakes, some vocabulary (vocabulary is cumullative) and face the apprenticeship as an adventure. For example: I´m used to attending films in spanish and I don´t get worried if I don´t understand every single word: the whole idea is what really matters.

    I am not an expert and just a beginner but you seems to me you have a great spanish accent and the voice match it 😂 great video I would like personally if I can ask a long video of Spanish phrases and maybe you also can make like 40 or 50 Spanish mini simple stories using common verbs and names using past and present and future in it like 2 mins story and put it in playlist maybe 10mins video contains 5 or stories or separate videos for more views and exposure I would listen to it many times in repeat, your voice is clear with good pronunciation

    I like the old fashioned translation of Lo que as “that which”. It helps distinguish between qué (what, interrogative) and Lo que ( that which, relative pronoun)

    • @realfastspanish
      @realfastspanish 4 дні тому

      Yes, this is common! But, I wished I had explained in the video that the problem with “that which” is that it can also translate to “el que”, “la que”, “los que” or “las que”. If I could do this video again, I would’ve explained this.

    Interesting. In old English (which is often closer to Spanish & other romantic languages - no doings or comings ) you’ll see ‘it that’ used a lot to express a thought/idea/sentiment that is by definition gender neutral & when not qualified, singular. For eg, ‘it that I love about you is …’, ‘in summer, it that I like to do is swim in the sea’. I personally find ‘it that’ a helpful style for lo que that helps me think in Spanish rather than modern English. Though I hadn’t clocked the non-conjugated 2nd verb rule. Always learning! Thx for the video 😊

    Up until I was 5 or 6 I spoke fluent Spanish. It's a long story. So I had the vocabulary of a 6 year old. I'm in my 60s and basically almost starting over. Although some phrases have been still used in the house by my mom so they stuck with me. But for a beginner, one needs a broad enough vocabulary to understand the words and context. A beginner may hear "se" and think it's a form of the verb Ser and not a pronoun. It won't be contextually correct but as a beginner, how would they know the difference? If you read it, it may make more grammatical sense. But if you hear it, you may be totally wrong. When you grow up speaking it, you just learn from hearing others. You don't learn sentence structure or parts of speech and usage until much later. Just like when English is learned. That has been my biggest challenge. Knowing expressions created from words that are put together that don't have a literal English translation. Like en vez de... for instead of... I mean who knew? I would have thought in time of... 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Soy hablante nativo de español y la verdad no sé por qué en vez de ir a ver una explicación en español sobre el "se", preferí verlo en inglés. Y creo que no se podía explicar mejor. Esto no se enseña en las escuelas primarias, simplemente se aprende con el habla cotidiana, o por lo menos yo no recuerdo que me lo hayan enseñado. Gracias por este video, muy educativo 👏

    From GPT: In Spanish, "ya" and "todavía" are both used to express different aspects of time and completion of actions. Here are the differences: ### Ya - **Meaning**: "Already" or "now". - **Usage**: Indicates that something has happened or a state has been reached. - **Examples**: - "Ya terminé mi tarea." (I already finished my homework.) - "Ya es hora de irnos." (It's time to go now.) ### Todavía - **Meaning**: "Still" or "yet". - **Usage**: Indicates that an action or state is continuing up to the present time or hasn't happened yet. - **Examples**: - "Todavía estoy trabajando." (I am still working.) - "Todavía no ha llegado." (He/she hasn't arrived yet.) ### Key Differences - "Ya" often implies completion or a change in status, while "todavía" suggests continuity or an action/state that is ongoing or not yet completed. - They can sometimes be used in similar contexts but convey different nuances. For example: - "Ya no fumo." (I no longer smoke.) - "Todavía no fumo." (I still don't smoke.) Understanding these nuances helps in choosing the correct word based on the context and what you want to convey.

    WRONG! Qué is What and Cuál is Which. This 10 minute milking the cow video ended up misleading people. If you have a list of options, then use Cuál; otherwise, use Qué. Don't make it complicated. So use ¿Qué es tu nombre? unless you are looking at a list of names, then use ¿Cuál es tu nombre?".
